Another 1800 On the Road

Postby Lex on April 19th, 2010, 4:29 am

Greetings Everyone
My name is Lex Marshall and my wife, Ruth, and I live between Bega and Tathra. We have always loved the Austin 1800 so when an opportunity came to buy and restore one - we did exactly that.
It is a Mk11 with automatic transmission.
Now, with a repaired front displacer unit, exchange brake servo and new carpets, the 1800 has passed its RWC and is now on full registration (BD 57 ZU). (Ruth uses it as her "everyday" car).
It runs very well and is pretty smooth - except - well except when we drive over pot holes or rough spots in the road. Then the front suspension sounds very noisy and it feels as though there are some loose spots there.
But, when I jack it up and check, everything seems quite firm.
I suspect that the problem will be with the rubber in some of the suspension joints - tierods etc.
But before I start pulling it apart I thought I'd find out if anyone on this forum has any suggestions.
Cheers
Lex
